September was stacked. Two publisher labels launched, a Danganronpa spinoff finally got a date, Gen Urobuchi's crime classic landed on Steam, and one high-profile release missed its window for the most mundane reason imaginable. Here is the rundown.
All visuals in this article are from official publisher or storefront pages.
Two new publisher labels
Idea Factory launched IFChronicle. Their first title is ICONOLOGY, a criminal thriller written by Makoto Fukami (PSYCHO-PASS). Targets PC and Switch, with English available at launch alongside Japanese and Chinese. No release date yet, but this is the most notable label-level move from a traditional publisher this month.

VISUAL ARTS launched VISUAL ARTS Scripts. Same house as Key, operating as a separate label. Their first release, Sayagatari: Youtou no Yakusoku, dropped in Japan on September 25. A Steam version is planned.
New label watch: Two established publishers betting on dedicated VN labels in the same month is a real signal. IFChronicle aims at mainstream crime fiction. VISUAL ARTS Scripts leans literary. Both are worth tracking.
Danganronpa 2x2 has a date
January 14, 2027. Coming to PS5, Xbox Series, Switch, Switch 2, and PC.
This is not a straight remaster of Danganronpa 2. It adds a new story supervised by Kazutaka Kodaka, with Japanese and English text and voice.

The ambitious one: Faraday Blues
Serenity Forge announced Faraday Blues for 2027 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series. It blends visual novel with card-based strategy across multiple timelines, promising:
- 64 endings
- Three interconnected VNs
- A hidden fourth timeline

Scope check: 64 endings across three interconnected stories with a hidden timeline on top. If they pull it off, this will be a reference project. If they do not, it will still be a very instructive one.
VTuber VNs: not slowing down
Three Entergram announcements arrived in quick succession:
- ARIA BLUE I. Natsuoto (fantasy, coming-of-age, PC/PS5/Switch) announced September 9
- Azure Memoria (around Azusa Honami) announced September 15
- Koyorenium (around hololive's Hakui Koyori) announced September 16
The VTuber-to-VN pipeline is clearly accelerating.
Releases this month
Phantom: PHANTOM OF INFERNO NITRO ARCHIVE hit Steam in early September. Gen Urobuchi's classic crime VN from Nitroplus, now on PC, sitting at around 96% positive reviews at time of writing.

HimaNatsu: Of Churches, Sunflowers, and Long Summers released September 10 with its first official English translation. Originally a 2013 Makura title, it keeps the Japanese voice acting and adds English and Chinese text.
Shinjuku Anomaly launched September 30 on Steam at $3.99. A short horror VN set in Shinjuku at night, built around photographing anomalies, with choices and multiple endings. English only for now.
The one that slipped
NEKOPARA Sekai Connect was supposed to arrive September 28. It did not. Steam still marks it as unavailable, and the delay was attributed to Steam's certification process taking longer than expected. Fingers crossed for early October.

What is coming
A few things worth watching before the year ends:
- Zombie Police: Midsummer Unhappy New Year on PC, November 22, 2026
- Psycho-Sleuth on PC, November 5
- Sugar Lies from Kogado Studio targeting late 2026 on PC, then spring 2027 on Switch
- Andromeda Six Episode 10 is turning into a two-parter given the sheer volume of branching from choices, romances, and past endings. A UI rework is also in progress.
What it means for tools like Pamyu
Faraday Blues mixes VN with card strategy. NEKOPARA Sekai Connect layers in RPG and minigame elements. Several new projects treat the VN format as a base layer rather than a rigid structure.
Pamyu note: More complex feature sets put more pressure on UI consistency, theming, and custom components. That is exactly the problem Pamyu exists to solve.
See you at the end of October.
